Back Pain

Back pain is a common complaint facing by many people. Disc Replacement

There is an artificial disc which is also known as disc replacement, disc prosthesis or by a spine arthroplasty device, which is a tool that is implanted into the spine to replicate the functions of normal disc. Basically discs designs are categories into two types namely total disc replacement and disc nucleus replacement.

In the total disc replacement, most of the disc tissues are removed and a replacement device is implanted into the gap between the vertebras. And in disc nucleus replacement, only the midpoint of the disc i.e. the nucleus is confiscated and substitute with an implant but the outer part i.e. annulus will not be removed.

Complication

In this treatment also, there are few complications faced by the concerned person such as infection, damage blood vessels, nerve injury, crack of the device and continuing pain.

Benefits

The potential benefit of disc replacement is that the patient can come back to their normal activities within a short period after fusion surgery. Such fusion patients have limited activities and during that time bone graft will form into solid mass and this can happen due to the motion which is the main aim of artificial disc and most of the patients are encouraged to return back to motion at early stage even though at the gradual progression.

On the other hand, artificial disc offer other benefits over fusion which is a new technology with long term randomized due to the control clinical study results. As fusion has a good proof of success in correcting problem in fusion motion segment permanently.
